Being online with anything creative nowadays is like living in one big advertisement with parties from all sides selling and competing for your attention. Not to mention the apps themselves playing dopamine games for your retention. Most of us know this and choose to be entertained and play the game anyway. But as artists who operate on heart & soul working in creative fields, either as small business owners or solopreneurs, you must become aware of the power plays constantly at work. In this ever-changing social dynamic, new narratives and agendas are continually popping up and being pushed, with new players and faceless corporations looking to redistribute people's talent, gifts, etc., in ways THEY determine and see fit. In the process, they end up ignoring differences, elevate less skillful and suppress those who excel. It sounds like every office job across the country, right? But it's also prevalent in the arts, just dressed up in different ways with unassuming personalities.
"The game is the game," and it's essential to become aware of it to be able to navigate and stay solid on your foundation before you box yourself in creatively and lose the unique spark to only you and your talents.
