Dream into Reality
Pictured above is an editorial shoot I photographed on Kodak Ektachrome 100 4x5 film. As a film photographer and director/filmmaker, I often find that creativity springs from the most unexpected sources. This photo series, where the model submerged in water, didn’t arise from a moment of sudden inspiration. Rather, it took shape from a dream – or perhaps a nightmare – that had subtly etched itself into my consciousness.
This dream, oscillating between the surreal and the tangible, didn't immediately propel me into creation. However, its imagery lingered in my mind, resurfacing when the conditions were perfect for a unique undertaking. While conceptualizing this editorial shoot, elements of the dream seamlessly intertwined with my creative process. The result was a series of five shots, each embedding aspects of the dream into a visually compelling narrative. Remarkably, the vision for this photoshoot was so vivid that I only needed seven shots on 4x5 film, and each one was exactly right. There was a sense of innate certainty about them.
