As we step further into 2024, the landscape of creative professions and entrepreneurial ventures is not just expanding—it's thriving. More than ever, individuals are carving out unique career paths within the creative sectors, launching or steering businesses that are deeply rooted in innovation and creativity. A personal experience underscored the importance of looking beyond a portfolio for me. A few years back, while leading a graphic design project, I needed to hire an illustrator. I found someone from Australia who was exceptionally talented on paper—his ability to draw, follow concepts, and innovate was exactly what we needed, and he was a nice person.


However, as the project progressed, a significant challenge emerged: he struggled with time management. Despite clear communication, regular follow-ups, ample support, and second and third chances (given because of talent level), meeting deadlines was a consistent issue. This experience was a stark reminder that while talent is critical, the ability to integrate into the structured timelines of a project is equally important. It taught me to value not just what is presented in a portfolio but also to consider how a creative professional manages their time and meet the demands of a project environment. This insight has since shaped how I approach hiring, emphasizing the need to assess a candidate's broader professional skills alongside their creative abilities...
